Into the Wild Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars
There are several facets to this book; investigating McCandless's life and trying to find reasons for his actions, relating the stories of other adventurous young men who have tempted fate (including the author), and the simple mystery of what actually happened to McCandless. The part I found the most interesting was just reading about his exploits as he wandered around the American West with no apparent income or direction. It's pretty foreign to me that a person can set out with little or no money, no support system, and no plan, and survive that way for so long. A pretty gripping story. Now I'll need the movie.

Serenity: Better Days, Volume 2 Serenity: Better Days, Volume 2 by Brett Matthews

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars
So, it wouldn't take much to make me happy here. More Firefly is good. Period. Better Days is pretty much one episode of the TV show, complete with Alliance operatives, underworld acquaintances, not so legal endeavors, and Jayne blowing up stuff. Liked it. Want more.

Why We Suck: A Feel Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid Why We Suck: A Feel Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid by Denis Leary

My review

Basically a text version of the authors stand-up rants about all that is wrong with the world. I laughed pretty regularly, so worth the effort. He may have harped just a little to long and hard on the "mother's belong at home raising kids" point for my taste, but what the heck, it's meant to be funny, not as a recipe for how the world works.

Free-Range Knitter: The Yarn Harlot Writes Again Free-Range Knitter: The Yarn Harlot Writes Again by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee

Another great book, but I've spoiled myself by reading the daily blog, so these longer chapters took too much time from my knitting

Another Success....Mostly

I finished another baby surprise sweater, and this one came out almost perfect. There are a few loose stitches on the sleeve where my cast on was not as neat as it should have been, but overall, I'm pleased. The hat I made to go with it, however, I'm not as happy about. It's another Elizabeth Zimmerman, a pillbox hat, but each time I make it I play around with the brim a little, and this one didn't please me. I couldn't really decide what to do to fix it, so it went into the gift bag anyway. I finished the project with a real simple pair of garter stitch booties, and the new mommy seemed really pleased. I only have one more to make this month.
